Alston Road Radar Speed Sign Project
Speeding on Alston Road has been a persistent issue for many years. The EHIA has explored various solutions, but most were not feasible because Alston Road serves as an Emergency Evacuation Route. After careful consideration, we are pleased to announce a partnership with the City of Santa Barbara to purchase and install solar-powered Radar Speed Signs on Alston Road.
To move forward, EHIA must sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the city. This agreement requires us to fund the purchase, maintenance, and replacement of the signs. The estimated total cost for the project is $18,000.
Kelly McAdoo, City Administrator and Derrick Bailey, Supervising Transportation Engineer, plan to present this proposal at the Santa Barbara City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 1st, at 2 p.m. to seek authorization to purchase the radar speed signs. Once City Council has approved this purchase, we can proceed with the project.
EHIA is committed to making Alston Road safer and is seeking donations to support this important initiative. You can contribute using the button above or by sending a check to the address provided:

Thank you for helping us improve safety in our community.Residential areas are meant to be safe havens, not race tracks. Uncontrolled traffic poses a serious threat to the safety of residents, particularly the elderly, children & pets. When traffic is moving too fast through a community, it affects the overall living experience. The disruption of daily life can take a toll on residents well-being. Slower, calmer traffic creates a peaceful environment where everyone feels more comfortable and safe.
With the traffic calming project EHIA is proposing, we hope to significantly reduce the speeding and risks of accidents making our neighborhood safer for everyone!
